Installing Polk Audio DXI525 Speakers into MP Products Kick Panels 71 72 73 Mustang. I am happy to announce that the installation of the new Polk Audio DXI525 Speakers went flawlessly. They were installed into the MP Products Re-Manufactured speaker-podded kick panels for the 71-73 Ford Mustang. These kick panels are tough and durable. The plastics they use are strong and are not brittle. My biggest fear with this install was the cutting of the plastics. I contacted MP Products and asked what they recommended and their customer service rep suggested a very fine toothed new jigsaw blade. I went out and picked up a set of Bosh blades (shown in pic) and they cut perfectly with no flexing of the plastic.
I first installed the panels without speakers to make my mounting holes. They go in very nicely. A word of caution on the drivers side: You will need to relocate your parking foot brake pedal as these pods will not allow for a speaker to sit in the desired location. Other than the parking brake, you will not need to modify anything else. I traced the inner grille circle onto the speaker pod with a paint pen. Next, I drilled a pilot hole to start the jigsaw. I cut out the speaker hole very easily and then marked and drilled the mounting holes.
