Installing FatMat Sound Deadener In Mustang Classic Car. The old 72 Mustang was in need of a fresh carpet installation. I decided to prepare the floor with a sound deadening material. I made the choice of using FatMat over Dynamat for two reasons. One, was the price and two, the FatMat had just as many positive reviews as Dynamat. You can pick up a 100 sq. ft bulk pack of FatMat for around $130 shipped to your door. You get 2 rolls of FatMat sound deadening material (each roll is 50 sq. ft.) a cheap disposable razor knife, and a wooden roller. It also comes with a decal and some install instructions.
I started by removing the old nasty smelly carpeting from the stang, after the carpet was removed, I scraped and scraped and scraped the old cheap home underlayment that was stuck down to the floor with a spray adhesive. The floor was then wire brushed and cleaned with regular household rubbing alcohol.
The FatMat installation went fairly smoothly, you will need to use a heat gun to smooth out the corners and press very firmly to lock down the rubberized compound to the bare metal floor. Once this stuff is down, it’s not coming up so make sure you are applying this stuff where you want it, the first time!
