After getting the not so good news that my existing 302 block was un-machineable I decided to look elsewhere for a donor motor. Re-manufactured long blocks average anywhere from $1000 to $1200 depending on where you look. I decided I wanted to stay in the under $400 range so I looked at my local scrap yards. There is a local salvage yard called Teddy Bears here in Tarpon that sells complete once running when pulled engines with under 60k miles on them. I lucked out and found a 96 explorer 5.0-liter roller motor complete on the pallet and ready to go. I snatched it up and got to work. Surprisingly this engine is in exceptional condition inside and out and with a little Ford Blue paint… Its going to be a very nice addition to the stang. Check out the photos. This engine has an extremely mild cam but is a roller motor with nice 3 bar GT40 heads (not “P” heads that require special manifolds)
