1972 Mustang Fastback Small Block Ford Engine Overhaul: Removing Bolt-Ons. Today was an organization day where I labeled each set of bolts that were removed from the valve covers, intake manifold, carb, etc. I also removed the hood, radiator fan shroud, fan, and carburetor. This process is a tedious one because the majority of the work is keeping a neat well-organized workspace and strategically labeling everything that comes off of the motor in a particular order. I want to make this overhaul as seamless as possible moving forward. While I am no pro, I do understand the importance of taking your time and keeping good notes along the way. My most dreaded part of this whole dis-assembly / tear down is the fluid draining process. I have limited resources to catch all of the various fluids that will come out and need to better equip my facility before moving forward. The radiator needs to be drained of all its coolant. The engine must be drained of all oil. The power steering system must be evacuated and the transmission must be drained… FUN TIMES AHEAD! Hopefully, I won’t mess up the tile floor too badly.
