Today was a fun & exciting day that quickly turned bad once I discovered what was making all that tapping noise when this engine ran. All looked good on the cam and 7 of the cylinder walls. The eighth one wasn’t so great. I discovered very large gouges in the cylinder walls and on the aluminum pistons on the thrust side of the motor. This is very worrying to me because this may mean that the engine block cannot be used for the build up. It will ultimately be determined by the machine shop but the outcome doesn’t look good. I tried to put together some quality videos illustrating the process and I also made a video showing the car running a year ago and the damage that was underlying.
